13 Players Recieve Spring Training Invites

The Tigers announced on Monday that 13 minor leaguers will start spring training off with the Tigers in big league camp.

The Tigers will bring 13 minor leaguers with them when spring training gets started in Feburary; four pitchers, four catchers, four infielders and an outfielder.

On the mound, the Tigers will have right-handers Rudy Darrow, Casey Fien, Ryan Perry and left-hander Jon Kibler.

Behind the plate, the Tigers have invited Alex Avila, Jeff Kunkel, Dane Sardinha, and Max St. Pierre.

Around the diamond, the organization is bringing Cale Iorg, Don Kelly, Will Rhymes and Scott Sizemore.

And wrapping things up in the outfield will be former Tiger, just recently resigned, Alexis Gomez.

Many of the players that have been invited likely will provide little more than depth, especially in the early stages of spring training when a number of Tigers' players will be participating in the World Baseball Classic.

However, with the numerous openings that the Tigers will have up for competition in the bullpen, relievers Casey Fien and Rudy Darrow could be watched closely, holding the possibility of snagging a spot in the team's bullpen when the team heads north for Opening Day.
