MiLB Recaps: Wilk Dominating in LFT Win

In a heralded bout with top pitching prospect Stephen Strasburg, the Mud Hens walked away with a 6-3 loss. L.J. Gagnier took the defeat, giving up all six Syracuse runs in 5 2/3 innings. While the Hens offense was kept in check, they weren't completely shut out by Strasburg, managing five hits and scoring a pair of runs off the youngster. Jeff Frazier went 3-for-4 with a double in the game, while Carlos Guillen, Deik Scram and Brent Dlugach each managed a hit and scored a run.

The SeaWolves have been a streaky team all season, and the last week, they've been on a losing streak, as Trenton handed the 'Wolves their sixth straight loss on Monday, falling 6-4. Duane Below took the loss, giving up five runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings. Brendan Wise also gave up an unearned run in his inning of relief. Josh Burrus ripped a two run homer for the club, while Cesar Nicolas added two hits and two runs scored.

The Flying Tigers picked up a win on Monday behind the efforts of an outstanding performance on the mound from Adam Wilk. Wilk went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out eight as he picked up his third victory of the season. Erik Crichton pitched the ninth for his second save of the year. Alden Carrithers drove in a pair of runs from the top of the order, while Julio Rodriguez added a pair of hits and an RBI.

West Michigan is now all alone in their division cellar after a 3-2 defeat to Fort Wayne in ten innings. Trevor Feeney was excellent on the mound but couldn't earn the win for the club. Feeney gave up two runs over eight innings of work, including six strikeouts. Melvin Mercedes took the loss for giving up the winning run in the tenth. Jordan Lennerton and Alexis Espinoza each managed three hits in the game, with two of Lennerton's being doubles. He also drove in a run for the club in the losing cause.

The VSL Tigers lost a tight battle with the VSL Reds on Monday, falling 5-4 when giving up a run in the bottom of the ninth. Endrys Briceno got roughed up as the starter, giving up four runs in just 1 2/3 innings. But the VSL Tigers marched back from the four run deficit and tied the game in the seventh inning. Manuel Morandi however allowed the winning run to reach base, and Angel Nesbitt couldn't prevent him from scoring. Jesus Alvarado added two hits and two RBI for the club, while David Lizardo chipped in with a hit and two runs driven in.
