The Mud Hens suffered a close one-run defeat to Louisville on Monday, losing 6-5. All this was despite the efforts of Casper Wells, who fell a single shy of the cycle as he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a home run and two RBI. L.J. Gagnier got the start and a no decision, giving up four runs in five innings of work. Gagnier also walked six in his outing. Josh Rainwater though would take the loss, giving up a pair of runs in his two innings of relief.
The Flying Tigers got some great pitching but were shut out as Clearwater topped Lakeland 1-0. Jon Kibler got the start and a no decision, tossing seven shutout innings. He also scattered five hits while striking out five. Jared Gayhart took the loss in relief for allowing the lone run in his 2/3 of an inning of work. At the plate, the team managed just four hits, two of them from Gustavo Nunez, who also had a double for the team's only extra base hit of the night.
The Whitecaps continue to roll as they beat Dayton again, 8-3. Trevor Feeney earned the win, going 7 1/3 innings for the 'Caps, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits. Jordan Pratt recorded the final five outs, three of them by strike out, for his second save. Rob Brantly had three hits and a run scored for the club, while Jeff Rowland added a double, a triple and two RBI. Avisail Garcia also drove in three runs for the team.
The CT-Tigers fell to Brooklyn 5-2 on Monday. Patrick Lawson took the loss, yielding four runs in his five innings of work. Tim Mowry had a solid relief outing, allowing a run in three innings, but the offense couldn't get much going, scattering plenty of hits but never putting a run together while going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. James Robbins did have two hits, while Ryan Enos added a double and a run scored.
The GCL Tigers picked up a 4-1 win over the GCL Yankees on Monday. Jade Todd got the start for the club, tossing four shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out four. Cole Nelson got the win in relief, giving up one unearned run while striking out six in three innings. Bruce Rondon also picked up his 13th save. Steven Moya had two hits including a double and two RBI for the club. Luis Castillo also had two hits and an RBI.
The DSL Tigers also picked up a win on Monday afternoon, topping the DSL Angels 3-1. Yinni Calderon got the win for the club, giving up a run on four hits in six innings of work. Darlin Duran and Carlos Alvarado combined to keep the Angels off the board over the final three innings. Raynolds Guzman had two hits, a run and an RBI for the club, while Samuel Ortiz ripped an RBI triple.
