The Flying Tigers split a doubleheader with Clearwater on Monday, taking game one 9-2 but falling in the second game 6-4. Jacob Turner got the win in the first game, giving up a run and two hits in five innings of work. He also walked one and struck out two. Gustavo Nunez had three hits and two RBI, while Daniel Fields added a two run homer. A trio of relievers handled the second game, with Erik Crichton taking the loss for allowing the go-ahead runs in the sixth. Jordan Lennerton belted a three run homer for the club, while John Murrian added a solo shot.
The Whitecaps apparently cannot lose, as they won their 12th straight game, topping South Bend 3-2. Victor Larez got the start but a no decision, giving up two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work. Kenny Faulk got the win in relief thanks to the Whitecaps' two run bottom of the ninth. Down one run, Tony Plagman ripped a triple that scored Avisail Garcia to tie the game and then in the next at-bat, a wild pitch allowed Plagman to score from the third, to take the win. Corey Jones also added a double and an RBI.
The GCL Tigers fell to the GCL Phillies 7-6 on Monday in 13 innings. Kyle Ryan got the start but took a no decision, giving up five runs (three earned) in 3 2/3 innings of work. Alex Burgos would lose the GCL Tigers' lead in the eighth, and the game would remain tied until the 13th, when Jeff Barfield allowed the game winning run. At the plate, Luis Castillo went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Kyle Peter drove in a pair of runs for the club. Five other GCL Tigers also had multi-hit games.
