The Mud Hens picked up their second straight win over Columbus on Sunday, this time a 4-2 victory. Ryan Ketchner got the start and earned the win, tossing five shutout innings for the club. Brendan Wise also tossed three innings of scoreless relief, and after Casey Fien allowed a pair of runs, Josh Rainwater came in to record the final out and record his first save. Cale Iorg had two hits and two RBI for the club, while Scott Sizemore added a double, scored twice, and drove in a run.
The SeaWolves split a doubleheader with Reading on Sunday, falling in the first game 5-3 but taking the second 3-2. Brayan Villarreal took the loss in the first game, giving up five runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings of work. He also walked none and struck out five. Brandon Douglas had two hits including a double, scored twice and drove in a run. Jose Ortega and Anthony Shawler made a combo start in the second game, with each tossing three innings and Shawler earning the win. Each allowed a run on two hits, enough to turn things over to Lester Oliveros, who picked up his tenth save. Bryan Pounds had a double and an RBI for the club.
The Flying Tigers also had a doubleheader on Sunday, but they dropped both of their games to the Tampa Yankees, falling 4-1 and 8-1. Luke Putkonen tossed all six innings in the first game, allowing all four runs as he took the loss. Kyle Peter had a double and an RBI to drive in Gustavo Nunez for the club's only run. Jeff Barfield took the loss in the second game, giving up seven runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Jordan Lennerton provided the only offense, belting a solo home run.
The Whitecaps fell to Great Lakes on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-1. The game got off to a rough start when Victor Larez yielded five runs in the first inning, including back-to-back-to-back home runs. Larez would take the loss, going seven innings and allowing those five runs. Nate Newman would allow the other two runs in his lone inning of relief. Corey Jones had a double and scored the club's only run.
