Scouting Report

Bruce Pugh's stuff isn't ever going to come into much question. But, his command, particularly of his secondary pitches, is something that he'll probably continue to battle for awhile. A problem Pugh continues to run into is falling in love with his fastball and losing any confidence in his ability to put his breaking ball in the strike zone. He's been hit hard for that very reason in the fall league.

Pugh has a long pitcher's frame and works from a deceptive three-quarter arm angle. Given his plus velocity, his fastball alone is a major weapon. He works at 94-97 mph and produces that plus velocity with relative ease. But, unless he can be more pinpoint with his fastball command, development some more movement, or locate his breaking ball he'll continue to be hit hard. He mixes in a fringe slider at 83-86 mph but struggles mightily to get it in the strike zone. Finding some way to add to that plus fastball in in his arsenal will be the key to whether he can work in the back of a big league bullpen or not.
