In the past six months, Cedar Hill (Texas) running back Aca'cedric Ware has burst onto the recruiting scene, picking up offers including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, Texas Tech, Florida, Iowa, and Ole Miss.
The 6-foot, 196-pound prospect has stayed humble throughout the process and says that he is enjoying the opportunity to hear from many programs.
"The past few months have been very exciting. I've been taking college visits; I took my first one to Tennessee, then Ohio State. I also went to Iowa and USC, and I plan on going to Notre Dame and Washington at some point next month. It has been very exciting," he said.
Of the schools he's visited, Ware said that two of them really left an impact.
"I know I want to take officials to USC, Iowa, Ohio State, and Notre Dame."
"Iowa and USC really stood out to me. I loved the family atmosphere at Iowa; when I walked in, everybody knew who I was, even the players. That made me feel pretty special. At USC, it was the same thing. Everybody on the staff knew who I was and they told me how badly they want me; even the players said that, so that was nice," he said.
He's already started thinking ahead to official visits, and says that as things currently stands, he knows four of the five programs that he wants to visit.
"I know I want to take officials to USC, Iowa, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. The fifth will be to whoever pulls me in the most," he said.
With no official commitment date in mind, Ware is taking his time with the process and wants to make sure that whatever schools he picks checks off all of the criteria on his list.
"First, academics. I want to major in architecture and construction or mechanical engineering. Second, I'm looking at the other players, like who is going to be there when I'm there. I'm looking at other running backs who will be there. Third, the depth chart. I want to see who would be in front of me, when he or they would be leaving, and when I would be able to play. Fourth, I want to go to a school where I feel like I'm part of a family as soon as I walk in," he said.
Ware does acknowledge, however, that as soon as he's ready to commit, he'll announce his decision.
"At first I was going to wait until Signing Day, but then I started to think that there was no point to wait if I know where I want to go. I'll probably make my decision during the season," he said.
For whichever program ends up landing the talented running back, Ware feels confident that he will impact the offense.
"I consider myself an every down back. I have exceptional power with good speed. I have good feet. I can make you miss, but I can also run through you if I have to. I think I've definitely seen growth in my speed and my strength. I work out a lot to improve those things. I'm a balanced back," he said.
