Elizabethton Batter Of The Year: Erik Lis

Erik Lis had a great season for Elizabethton in 2005, and for his efforts, was named TwinCitiesDugout.com's Elizabethton Batter of the Year. He showed the ability to hit for power and average, and was a rock at first base. Lis should continue his hot-hitting next season, and should rapidly move throughout the organization.

Erik Lis had a terrific first season in professional baseball for the Elizabethton, using his bat and his glove while leading them to the Appalachian League title. The slugging first baseman, who capped off his year with a two-home run effort against Princeton, is one of the top first base prospects within the organization. In 2006, he should continue to dominate opposing pitchers, thanks to his ability to hit for both power and average.

Lis got off to a slow start for E-Town in 2005, hitting only .192 in seven June games after being drafted in the ninth round. However, he did hit his first professional home run, and finished the year with seven RBI in his seven games.

July brought Lis into the attention of the whole organization, as they named him their Twins' Minor League Player of the Month. In July, he batted .407 in 18 games, lifting his average from .192 to .341. He also hit four home runs, drove in 21 runs, and scored 11 times.

In August, Lis had another decent month, batting .289 in 24 contests. He smacked five home runs, drove in 13 runs, and scored 13 more times. But, like any slugger, he did strike out numerous times, whiffing 19 times in the month.

Overall, Lis finished the year with a .315 batting average, in his 29 appearances. He ended the year with ten home runs, 12 doubles, and a team-high 41 RBI. He came up big in the clutch time after time, hitting .372 with runners on, and .373 with runners in scoring position.

Lis could begin the 2006 season in Fort Myers, after showing Twins brass that he can hit both righties and lefties. He was an absolute star at Evansville University, and has now become a star in the Twins' organization.
