Twins Take Athlete In Tenth

The Twins took Jared Mitchell in the tenth round of the 2006 draft, mostly because he is one of the better athletes in the draft. He has speed to burn, plays a great centerfield, and has a bulldog mentality. He also is signed to play football at LSU, which puts a wrinkle into this pick.

The Twins tenth round pick will either become a big time centerfield prospect for the Twins, or will be helping LSU try to win a National Championship next season. The Twins are hoping for the first scenario, as they selected Jared Mitchell out of Westgate High School in Louisiana. He has speed to burn, but is raw, and scouts don't know how his bat will project.

In Mitchell, the Twins will get a great athlete, who already projects to be a great defensive centerfielder. He has a good arm, and he hits from the left-side, so he'll be a big-time bunt threat. He reminds some scouts of a young Denard Span.
