Two Elizabethton Twins Named Apply All-Stars

Last season, the Elizabethton Twins won the Appalachian League title. This season, they are currently in first place in the Apply League West, and recently had two of their players named to the league's postseason All-Star team. Danny Valencia and Danny Hernandez will represent the E-Town Twins on the team.

The 2005 Appalachian League champion Elizabethton Twins are currently in first place in the Apply League Western Division, and they recently had two players named to the Appalachian League postseason All-Star Team. The two players representing the Twins are third baseman Danny Valencia, a 2006 19th round draft choice, and Danny Hernandez, who is currently leading the league in saves.

Valencia played his college ball for the University of Miami, and was a College World Series hero for the Hurricanes. He has been hitting ever since he signed with the Twins, and is currently boasting a .327 batting average through his first 41 professional games. Batting from the number three spot in the lineup, Valencia has been more than clutch for the Twins this season, posting a .321 batting average with runners on.

Though he only plays for short-season team, Hernandez is already leading the entire Twins organization with 17 saves. The 20-year old right-hander has been dominant for the Twins this season, and has been unhittable to lefties. In 25 at-bats, lefties have stroked only one hit against Hernandez, making it very difficult for a Manager to pinch hit against him.

With Hernandez is leading the league in saves by six saves, Valencia is currently fourth in the league in batting average.

Some Twins were overlooked during the selection, most notably Garrett Olson, who is eighth in the league with a .318 batting average. Jose Castillo's 2.71 earned run average is fourth in the league, and Jose Lugo leads the league with seven wins.
