Batter of the Month: Erik Lis, 1B/OF
.310 BA, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 12 BB, 9 (2B), .488 SLG
Last season, we called for Lis to get a promotion to High-A Fort Myers often. This season, he is proving he may have been ready for the pitcher-friendly Florida State League, as he has been dominant once again with the stick. Lis told us in Spring Training that he prepared well for the upcoming season, and it has showed, as he is batting .310 on the year. He has also driven in 17 runs, being a constant in the middle of the Miracle lineup. He also has nine doubles, leading to a very nice .488 slugging percentage. Lis shook off a slow start to the season, and now appears to be seeing the ball very well.
Slump of the Month: Eli Tintor, OF
.205 BA, 11 RBI, 5 R
The Miracle were counting on Tintor to be a big part of their lineup in 2007, after a breakout season in 2006. Tintor has been great at some points in the season, but has not been as consistent as you would like. Still, he has had some timely hits, and has already driven in 11 runs. If he can get more consistent, that .205 batting average should be a distant memory very soon.
Pitcher of the Month: Eduardo Morlan, RP
7 G, 3 SV, 0.84 ERA, 10.2 IP, 9K
Morlan has become the Miracle closer in 2007, and he is adjusting quite well to that role. Formerly somebody who was also a starter, Morlan has been a shut down force in the late innings for the Miracle, and has an earned run average under 1.00 to start the 2007 slate. The young right-hander has a blazing fastball, and has yet to blow a save opportunity in 2007. He has allowed an earned run in only one of his appearances in 2007, and has gone more than 1.0 innings in four of his games. In has also struck out at least one batter in his last six appearances.
Slump of the Month: Oswaldo Sosa, SP
5.59 ERA, 5 GS, 0-2 Record, 19.1 IP, 22K
Sosa made six successful starts for the Miracle last season, but through his first five in 2007, he has been quite ineffective. He was slated to have a great year in Fort Myers, and possibly being called up to New Britain rather early, but the results have not been there. He is showcasing his strikeout potential, whiffing better than a batter per inning, but he has not been consistent. He has yet to go further than 5.0 innings all season long.
