TCD May Pitcher and Player of the Month

As we get further into the month of June, it is time for TwinCitiesDugout.com to roll out our Player and Pitcher of the Month for the month of May. Many young prospects had great months, but it seems like these two players rose above them all. Here is a look at who took home the honors:

Player of the Month

Matthew Allegra, OF- New Britain Rock Cats
25 G, .323 BA, 6 HR, 20 RBI, 9 2B
Allegra came on strong in the month of May, taking home Twins Minor League Player of the Week honors once, and really leading the New Britain offense. The slugging outfielder batted .323 on the month, collecting multiple multi-hit games, and blasted six home runs. He scored 18 times, stroked nine doubles, and collected 30 hits in total. If he continues to swing the bat like he did in May, he may be able to put a little life into the Rochester lineup before the season is over.

Pitcher of the Month

Ryan Mullins, SP- Fort Myers Miracle/ New Britain Rock Cats
FTM: 5 GS, 0.86 ERA, 3-1, 31.1 IP, 29 K, .231 BAA, NBR: 1 GS, 3.00 ERA, 0-0, 6.0 IP, 7 K
Mullins really set himself apart from the other pitching prospects in the organization in May, with the exception of maybe Kevin Slowey and Oswaldo Sosa, earning himself a promotion to Double-A New Britain in the process. The former Vanderbilt star lefty made six total starts for the Twins farm system in May, and was nearly unhittable in the Florida State League. Mullins had an earned run average under 1.00 for the Miracle, before pitching six strong innings for the Rock Cats in his first Double-A start. He also was named to the Florida State League All-Star Game, though he will not participate due to his promotion.
