This week's selection could easily have been any one of four players from Elizabethton, Rene Leveret, Ozzie Lewis, Deibinson Romero or Greg Yersich. Infielder Steven Tolleson of the Miracle also had a tremendous week, yet Elizabethton shortstop Estarlin De Los Santos was as good as anyone for the entire week.
Estarlin De Los Santos is a 20 year old shortstop from the Dominican Republic who is in his third year in the Twins organization. He began in the DSL in 2005 where he hit for a .261 Average in 138 at bats with 25 runs scored, 8 doubles, 19 rbi, 16 walks, 33 strikeouts and 11 stolen bases in 15 attempts. Last year he played in the Gulf Coast League where he hit .195 Average in only 82 at bats with 12 runs scored, 1 double, 2 triples, 2 rbi, 8 walks, 18 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases in 10 attempts.
This week De Los Santos had a hit in each of the Twins 5 games including 2 hits in two games and 3 hits in 2 games for a total of 11 hits in 22 at bats (.500 Average for the week). His 13 runs were over a quarter of the E-Town Twins total runs for the week. He also had 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 rbi, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
For the season, De Los Santos is hitting .347 Average, .402 OBP and .495 SLG with 28 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 23 rbi in 95 at bats. He has 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts, unfortunately, he also has a team high 9 errors.
