TCD Prospect of the Week: Brian Dinkelman

Though he gave a lot of thought to Carlos Gutierrez and Ramon Santana, Roger Dehring named Brian Dinkelman his TCD Prospect of the Week. It is the first honor for Dinkelman this season, as he broke out of a mini early-season slump.

Although Ramon Santana and Carlos Gutierrez had weeks worthy of recognition, no one had a better week than New Britain Rock Cats infielder Brian Dinkelman.

Dinkelman was the Twins' eighth round pick in 2006 out of McKendree College, where he was selected as the NAIA Player of the Year. In 2007, Brian led the organization with 104 runs scored while with Beloit and Fort Myers. Last year, he returned to Fort Myers, where he hit .293/.399/.414, with 33 walks, and only 28 strikeouts in 232 at bats. Brian was promoted to New Britain following the Florida State League All-Star Game, where he hit .247/.299/.369 in 198 at bats.

Brian began this season back at New Britain. He was hitting .250/.367/.350 prior to this week, when he was 10-22 (.455 Average) with three walks, two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and eight runs batted in. A player who always takes good at bats, Brian has nine walks and only eight strikeouts in 62 at bats, and is now hitting .323/.419/.468 with eight runs scored and a team high 14 runs batted in.
