TCD Prospect of the Week: David Bromberg

This week, Roger Dehring names Fort Myers Miracle starting pitcher David Bromberg his Prospect of the Week. Bromberg, who led the Minor Leagues in strikeouts in 2008, pitched 7.2 shutout innings against St. Lucie, after notching his second win of the season earlier in the week.

Last year David Bromberg led all minor league pitchers with 177 strikeouts in 150 innings while pitching at Beloit. He finished his first full season with a 9-10 record, 4.44 ERA and 54 walks in 27 starts.

Bromberg moved up a level to Fort Myers this spring, where he takes a regular turn in their starting rotation every fifth game. He has been solid prior to this week, with a 1-0 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and nine walks in four starts (20.0 innings). Bromberg took a step forward this week, and is now pitching better than any other Miracle starter except Carlos Gutierrez, who was the Twins April Pitcher of the Month.

Bromberg began this week with his second win (2-0) in an excellent start in the Miracle's 6-4 win over first place Charlotte. He pitched 5.0 innings with four hits, two runs, three strikeouts and four walks. He followed that performance with one of the organization's best starts this season, pitching 7.2 shutout innings with only 1 hit, 5 strikeouts and 4 walks in Thursday's 1-0 win over St. Lucie.

This week's performance saw his numbers improve to a 2.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 23 strikeouts and 17 walks in 32.2 innings.
