Bartolo Colon was roughed up again in the start, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings. Colon walked two and struck out six.
Crede and Brian Daubach hit RBI-doubles in the eighth, and Miles a sacrifice fly in the ninth to tie the game up at five. Crede went 2-2 as the DH, and Aaron Rowand started in center, going 2-3. Daubach went 2-4.
Just one day after the Sox dropped outfielders Willie Harris and Joe Borchard, instead choosing to stick with three catchers in Sandy Alomar, Miguel Olivo and Josh Paul, Armando Rios saw time in center field and Paul started in left field. Ryan Kochlmeier threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, and minor leaguer Matthew Smith threw a perfect ninth.
The Sox now have three games left -- one against Double-A Birmingham -- before heading to Kansas City for opening day on March 31. Jon Garland will start in Friday's game against the Houston Astros. Gametime will be at 6:05 p.m. CT.
