Minor League Recap - April 8th Games

The game between the Norfolk Tides and Charlotte Knights was postponed due to rain.

It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 PM CST.

The Birmingham Barons suffered yet another heartbreaking extra-inning defeat, losing 2-1 to rival West Tenn. in 12 innings.

Closer prospect Royce Ring (0-2), was the losing pitcher for the second straight day, as the Jaxx scored an unearned run off of him in the bottom of the 12th. The run was scored in a rather bizarre fashion, with one out in the 12th two Barons made errors on the same play, both Gabe Alvarez and Josh Shaffer missed their targets on throws, and allowed Brandon Sing to score.

This is the fourth straight game the Barons have lost, which matches Birmingham's longest such streak from last year.

Highly touted prospect Corwin Malone started the game for the Barons, and looked quite impressive. Malone went 5 innings, allowing only one run on six hits while striking out two batters. Control seems to still be plaguing Malone, as he walked five West Tenn. batters.

Offensively, Chad Durham, brother of Ray, went 3-6 with a stolen base. Collectively the Barons pounded out 12 hits, but couldn't manage but their one run.

The Barons will conclude their series tonight at 5:35 PM CST, looking to avoid the sweep and a five game losing streak. .

Tuesday Night's Double Header between the Kannapolis Intimidators and the Hagerstown Suns was rained out.

The two teams will attempt to play a double header today at 5:05 PM CST.

On Tuesday, the Winston-Salem Warthogs could only watch as their home opener was rained out.
