Arizona Fall League
Addison Russell: A's top prospect Russell has appeared in seven games for the Mesa Solar Sox. He is batting just .250 in 28 at-bats, but he has walked more than he has struck-out (5:3) and he has three stolen bases. Russell also homered in his last game and he has two doubles.
Max Muncy: Muncy had a huge 2013 regular season, but he is off to a slow start in the fall league. In 26 at-bats, he has just four hits (all singles). He also has six strike-outs and just two walks. Muncy has played his customary first base and has dabbled at third base.
David Freitas: Freitas is also off to a slow start for Mesa, but he hit a three-run homer in his last games. He has two hits in 17 at-bats, including that homer. Freitas has five strike-outs and one walk.
Ryan Dull: Dull has appeared in four games for the Solar Sox. He has a 5.40 ERA and has allowed six hits in five innings, including a homer. Dull has struck-out three and has walked one.
Omar Duran: Duran has made four appearances for Mesa, as well. In two of his outings, he pitched scoreless innings. However, in his other two innings, Duran has struggled with his command, allowing five walks and four runs in 2.2 innings over those two outings.
Seth Frankoff: Frankoff has well for Mesa thus far. He has yet to allow a run in five appearances (4.2 innings). Frankoff has allowed two hits and one walk and he has three strike-outs.
Jeff Urlaub: The left-hander Urlaub has breezed through the AFL competition thus far. In four appearances (five innings), he has allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out six. He has yet to allow a run.
Dominican Winter League
Anthony Aliotti: After a breakthrough 2013 regular season, Aliotti is getting more work in this winter in the DWL. HE is suiting up for the Gigantes del Cibao. In three games, Aliotti has two hits and a walk in 10 at-bats, but one of those hits was a homerun.
Bruce Billings: Billings is a minor league free agent this off-season and he is looking to raise his profile after a solid 2013 regular season. The right-hander has made one start for the Estrellas de Oriente. He allowed just two hits in five innings, striking out six and walking none.
Jonathan Joseph: Joseph was eligible for minor league free agency this off-season, but like last year, he chose to re-sign with Oakland. The right-hander is pitching for the Toros del Este this winter. He has made one appearance and has allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Kyler Newby: Like Billings, Newby is a minor league free agent this off-season. He had a solid first year in the A's organization in 2013 and he is now pitching for the Gigantes. In one start, he has allowed three runs on six hits in three innings of work.
Pedro Viola: Viola is also pitching for the Gigantes this winter. The left-hander, who is a minor league free agent, pitched at three levels for the A's this season. He has two scoreless relief appearances for the Gigantes thus far, spanning 1.1 innings. He has struck-out two.
Mexican Winter League
Andres Avila: The 23-year-old Avila is once again pitching for the Caneros de los Mochis in his native Mexico. Avila split his 2013 regular season between Low-A Beloit and High-A Stockton. A starter with the A's, he has served as a reliever this winter thus far. In three outings, he has allowed a run on four hits in three innings.
Jesus Castillo: Castillo joined the A's late in the 2013 season from the Mexican Summer League. He made six appearances for Midland during the final month of the season and didn't allow a run in 10 innings. The right-hander is pitching for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo this winter and he has already appeared in four games. Castillo has allowed one run in 4.1 innings, scattering eight hits and two walks.
Venezuelan Winter League
Darwin Perez: Perez joined the A's as a minor league free agent before the 2013 season and he will test that market again this winter. He is currently playing for the Navegantes del Magallanes in his native Venezuela. He is off to a good start at the plate, collecting four hits and five walks in five games (12 at-bats).
Carlos Hernandez: Longtime A's farmhand Hernandez has developed a reputation for being an excellent winter league pitcher over the past three off-seasons. The left-hander is pitching for the Tigres de Aragua this winter. In two starts, he has struck-out nine and has walked none in 9.2 innings, although he has allowed five runs. Hernandez is a minor league free agent this winter.
Paul Smyth: Reliever Smyth is getting his first winter league exposure this off-season with the Bravos de Margarita. After a solid 2013 regular season with Midland and Sacramento, Smyth has a 4.91 ERA in six appearances thus far this winter. He has struck-out five and hasn't walked a batter in 7.1 innings, but he has allowed two homeruns.
