Gilliam Reels in Another from the SEC

Offensive lineman Nathan Gilliam of Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tennessee took an unofficial visit to Mississippi State on Thursday. After taking the guided tour, Gilliam was offered a scholarship from the Bulldogs. With three offers to his credit, Gilliam is off and running with his recruitment. After a good day in Starkville, the rising talent has some good things to say about MSU.

"Coach Billy Gonzales is my area recruiting coach and he wanted me to come and visit the campus," said Gilliam. "When I first got there, I met with him and he took me up to meet with the O line coach, Coach (John) Hevesy.

"Once I was done meeting with him, they introduced me to a tour guide who showed me the campus and all of the facilities.

"I am looking to major in business, so they let me talk to one of the academic advisers about all of that."

Before leaving the Mississippi State campus, Gilliam was able to sit down across the desk from the top dawg, Dan Mullen.

"Meeting with Coach Mullen was great," said Gilliam. "He is not like some CEO of a big company.

"You can really just go set and talk with him and his involved.

"We talked for over an hour and about half way through, he told me that they were offering me a scholarship."

The Bulldogs join Kentucky and Wake Forest as schools with offers on the table.

Gilliam is not ready to name a leader, but he reports that his visit to Mississippi State made a positive impact on him.

"I had never been to Mississippi State before," said Gilliam. "The thing that really stands out is the coaching staff.

"I really enjoyed having the chance to meet with all of them and they really made me feel welcome."

The Volunteer State product has a few other SEC excursions planned over the course of the next few weeks.

"I decided to go over to Ole Miss today, since I was so close," said Gilliam. "I am going to South Carolina on the 29th for their junior day and then I am going to Tennessee for their spring game.

"My brother (Jacob Gilliam) plays college football at Tennessee.

"I don't really start hearing much from them until after I had a couple of offers, but they seem to be really interested now.

"I guess the process just moves a little slower for them, but they are showing me a lot of interest now."

At this point in the process, Gilliam's time frame for a decision is still rather fluid.

"Right now, I am planning on making my decision after my senior season, but I if I decide not to wait that long I may do it before the season or during the season," explained Gilliam. "I just want to take my time and make the right decision.

"I am looking for playing time. I want to be able to make an impact and help the team, so I have to get on the field first to do that.

"The next thing I am looking at is academics. I want to be able to get the best education I can and I have some great schools looking at me that are known for that.

"The other thing is the coaching staff. I really want to be part of a family and not just on a team where I get yelled at all of the time and things like that.

"I want to have a great relationship with all of the coaches and just feel like I really part of something with a family atmosphere."
