Schwarber off to hot start

Kyle Schwarber made his Class A ball debut Thursday night at Kane County and had a single and an RBI. He is tearing it up in his first six games of professional baseball.

Kyle Schwarber is wasting little time making a splash at the next level.

Schwarber, the fourth player selected overall in the 2014 Major League Draft by the Chicago Cubs, played just five games with Boise (Idaho) before earning a promotion to Class A Kane County in Geneva, Ill. He joined the team Wednesday.

In five games with Boise, Schwarber was 12-for-20 with four home runs, seven runs scored and 10 RBI. He had two home runs Tuesday in a 12-3 victory over Tri-City and later in the day learned of his promotion.

In his first game Thursday night with Kane County, the fromer Indiana star was 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 7-0 win over Cedar Rapids. Schwarber has now recorded at least one hit in each of his six games at the next level.

"It sounds like he's doing well," Cubs manager Rick Renteria told "Hopefully it continues for him. ... Good for him. I'm sure he's very excited. It sounds like he's a kid who just wants to play ball."
