Q&A with Yankees 4th Round Pick Jeff Hendrix

We sat down with Yankees' 4th round pick, Jeff Hendrix, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the outfielder from Oregon State University says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he'll bring to the Yankees organization, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the New York Yankees?

Jeff Hendrix: It’s awesome! Anytime you hear your name called on draft day, it’s just your childhood dream coming true.

PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?

Hendrix: I’m the type of athlete who can run and have a lot of power at the plate, but I think I can improve on stealing bags. I will continue to play aggressive and I won’t hold anything back while having fun and enjoying the game just like I have my entire life.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?

Hendrix: My strengths would definitely be my speed, defense and hitting. My weakness is stealing bags. It’s something I need to use more throughout my game as a weapon.

PinstripesPlus.com: How about your defensive game?

Hendrix: That’s definitely one of my strong points in my opinion.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Hendrix: It’s funny because everyone tells me I play similar to Jacoby Ellsbury.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?

Hendrix: I wasn’t surprised. I talked to them quite a bit in the past so when I finally heard them call my name at the draft I was in awe and screaming. It was really cool.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?

Hendrix: I could see myself playing center for a long time. I’m not opposed to moving my position though. It’s really whatever the organization thinks will help the team the most.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Hendrix: As for what I’ve achieved with my team, my best moment in my baseball career thus far is making it to the College World Series and starting – it was a good experience and something I will always remember.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?

Hendrix: I was born in the Seattle area and I attended my first game at 6 months old. After I moved away from Seattle, I lived in a town that didn’t have a team so I really know if I have a favorite team. My favorite player is Jacoby Ellsbury because I grew up watching him and he played at Oregon State as well and like I said before, I feel like our game is very similar.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your immediate plans now that the Yankees have drafted you? Is it your intention to sign now and start your professional career immediately?

Hendrix: I would like to start very soon but I need to talk with the organization to talk about my immediate plans.
