Q&A with Yankees 8th Round Pick Donny Sands

We sat down with Yankees' 8th round pick, Donny Sands, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the third baseman from Salpointe Catholic High School in Arizona says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he'll bring to the Yankees organization, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the New York Yankees?

Donny Sands: It is a dream come true, it truly is amazing.

PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?

Sands: I am very hardworking. I try to do anything to help the team out in any way or shape they need me in.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?

Sands: My strengths would be my worth ethic and being able to be coachable, as well as constantly being able to learn. Weaknesses would just include just trying to get better each and every day and in every part of the game that I can.

PinstripesPlus.com: How about your defensive game?

Sands: My arm strength is a big party of my defensive game and is a vital part of my game. I also have a very hard work ethic in the infield.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Sands: I would say Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?

Sands: I had a pretty good idea that I was going to be selected by the Yankees and it truly was a dream come true.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?

Sands: I am a very hard worker and will play wherever the coaches or team needs me, and I will continue to work hard everyday.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Sands: Definitely getting drafted by the New York Yankees. It was always a dream but it actually came true.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?

Sands: My favorite player was definitely Derek Jeter growing up. Interesting enough I was a Red Sox fan while I was younger but I always really liked a lot of the Yankees players.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your immediate plans now that you have been drafted by the Yankees? Is it your intention to sign now and start your professional career immediately?

Sands: Yes, my intention is to sign now and get back to work. I am currently in route to Tampa and am very excited to get going.
