We sat down with Yankees' 8th round pick Dalton Blaser for a Q&A session.

We sat down with Yankees' 8th round pick, Dalton Blaser, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the first baseman/outfielder from Cal-State Fullerton says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he'll bring to the Yankees organization, who he would compare his game to at the big league level, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the New York Yankees?

Dalton Blaser: It’s a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to be a Yankee, they have been my favorite team since I was younger.

PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?

Blaser: I have a quality eye at the plate. I’m a disciplined hitter. I’m excited to work with the organization and sharpen my tools and get better and better every day.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?

Blaser: As far as strengths go, I play disciplined. I have a strong arm. I feel like I have a way of getting hits.

PinstripesPlus.com: How about your defensive game?

Blaser: I try to be a solid infielder. I try to take my position seriously and have a blast with it. I make plays when I need to and any way to help my team win.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Blaser: Alex Gordon, outfielder for the Royals. He used to be an infielder, now an outfielder; I play gap to gap with doubles. He’s probably the closest I can think of.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?

Blaser: I had filled some things out for them so I knew they were looking at me but I didn’t know how interested they were. They did the same thing with my father back in 1981, they were looking at him and they picked him. For me, I knew they were looking at me, and it happened to be a dream come true and they selected me in the 8th round.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?

Blaser: Playing first and corner outfield only helps. I think I can play first base at the big league level and I can play the outfield at the big league level and it makes me a versatile player, and either one I can see myself playing in the big leagues.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Blaser: Game 1 in Louisville. I came up in the top of the 6th, hit an RBI single to put us ahead 1-nothing. Looking at my team and seeing that reaction was one of the best moments I can remember.

PinstripesPlus.com: You mentioned already being a Yankee fan.  Who was your player growing up?

Blaser: Derek Jeter.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your immediate plans now that you have been drafted by the Yankees? Is it your intention to sign now and start your professional career immediately?

Blaser: Absolutely and I’m ready to get to work and get better and stronger. I’m ready to do anything I can to help this organization.
