We sat down with Yankees' 4th round pick Nick Nelson for a Q&A session.

We sat down with Yankees' 4th round pick, Nick Nelson, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the right-handed pitcher from Gulf Coast Community College says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he'll bring to the Yankees organization, who he would compare his game to at the big league level, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by a team like the Yankees.

Nick Nelson: I was in disbelief. It was an honor to be drafted and be able to wear the pinstripes.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you surprised it was the Yankees that selected you? Had you and the Yankees talked much before the draft?

Nelson: Yeah I had been talking to them a bit and I knew that they had been looking at me for a while.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you have any idea what the Yankees' organization or farm system is like?

Nelson: I know that they have a very good organization. All I had been told was that they would take very good care of me and that I would get to wear the pinstripes.

PinstripesPlus.com: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds?  Give us a scouting report please - what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?

Nelson: Fastball: 90-94, can go a bit higher. Changeup: 85-89, I just don’t know how to slow it down. Curveball: 78, 79. Strengths: I have a live arm. I have good movement on my fastball, along with a good curveball. I need to work on my changeup, throw it with less speed so that it drops more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Did you have a favorite team growing up or a favorite player?

Nelson: My favorite team was the Atlanta Braves and I was a huge Chipper Jones fan. My entire family have always been Braves fans, so that was what I always watched growing.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your stuff to at the Major League level so Yankees' fans can get an idea of what you're like on the mound? And why?

Nelson: Not really, I don’t know, to be honest. I was always a good hitter growing up so people didn’t worry about my pitching as much.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Nelson: This past summer, my team was playing in the 19U World Championships. We went the full 7 innings, the game went to the 8th and I won the World Series on a walk-off home run

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you think the pressures of pitching in New York might be a problem?

Nelson: I know that the Yankees expect a lot of their players, which is good motivation. There is definitely going to be a lot of pressure because you always want to do your best.
