We sat down with Yankees' 17th round pick, Mandy Alvarez, for a Draft Day Q&A session. PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the New York Yankees?

Mandy Alvarez: It feels great. It’s an honor to be a part of the most prestigious sports organization in the world.

PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?

Alvarez: I’m a hard-nosed player. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win, and I play as hard as I can. I’m willing to win at all costs.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?

Alvarez: My biggest strength is my hitting and my ability to not strike out and make good contact. My weakness I would say I have to improve my speed.

PinstripesPlus.com: How about your defensive game?

Alvarez: There’s always room to improve. There’s always room for adjustments. I consider myself to have a good arm.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Alvarez: I’d like to compare myself to Dustin Pedroia.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?

Alvarez: I wasn’t surprised. I knew they had interest in me. I was excited to get better.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?

Alvarez: I see myself playing third base or second base.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Alvarez: [Winning] 2016 D-1 [Ohio Valley] Conference player of the Year.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?

Alvarez: Miami Marlins and Miguel Cabrera.
