We sat down with Yankees' 3rd ound pick Trevor Stephan for a Q&A session.

We sat down with Yankees' 3rd round pick, Trevor Stephan, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the right-handed pitcher from the University of Arkansas says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he'll bring to the Yankees organization, who he would compare his game to at the big league level, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by a team like the Yankees.

Trevor Stephan: It was crazy. I was just kind of playing the waiting game, didn’t really know what was going to happen. Then I was lucky enough to get a call from the Yankees, which was pretty cool.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you surprised it was the Yankees that selected you? Had you and the Yankees talked much before the draft?

Stephan: They showed a lot of interest. They were one of the more favorite candidates. I spoke with the Red Sox, Atlanta was in the mix and I think the Pirates.

PinstripesPlus.com:  Do you have any idea what the Yankees' organization or farm system is like?

Stephan: I don’t, but they took Glenn Otto with the pick right after me. We’re both from the same area, we train together and we’re friends, so that’s pretty cool.  I’m already here [In Tampa] but the first few days have been good. Just getting my feet wet and getting used to it all.

PinstripesPlus.com: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds?  Give us a scouting report please - what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?

Stephan: Fastball is the mainstay. It’s topped out at 97. I have a slider that’s gpt a lot better over the season. I’ll mix in a slow breaking ball now an then but that’s pretty rare. I’ll throw a circle changeup too. Slider is around 80-86, changeup is around 85-86. I think I need to just develop my pitches a little bit better. I have a good feel but I need to add some more velo to my slider and trust my changeup more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Did you have a favorite team growing up or a favorite player?

Stephan: I did not, I’m just a big baseball fan, I watch a lot of it.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your stuff to at the Major League level so Yankees' fans can get an idea of what you're like on the mound? And why?

Stephan: I don’t know about it but I would like to be like Noah Syndergaard one day. He just has a power fastball, power breaking ball. Just a power arm.

PinstripesPlus.com:  What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Stephan: Oh by far it was getting drafted. That’s just been a dream of mine and it’s cool to live that out. Being a pro baseball player was always my goal.

PinstripesPlus.com:  Are you looking to sign quickly and get your professional career started right away?

Stephan: I signed my contract [already[ actually and I’m already down here. Played catch for the first time [Friday] and watched the intrasquad game.
PinstripesPlus.com: Do you think the pressures of pitching in New York might be a problem?

Stephan: I do, not. I think I’ll definitely be able to handle that.
