Just like in the first game, the Angels scored early. Jose Guillen put them up by two with his homerun in the first inning off of Javier Vazquez... The Yanks scored a run in the third when Kenny Lofton came home on an Alex Rodriguez sacrifice fly... Adam Kennedy hit a solo upper-deck homerun in the fourth to make it 3-1... Lofton drove in Bernie Williams in the fifth with a sac fly to make it 3-2... In the eighth, the Angels broke it open. Jeff Davanon drove in Chone Figgins with a double and drove Vazquez from the game... Two batters later, with the bases loaded against Paul Quantrill, Casey Kotchman cleared the bases with a double to give Anaheim a 7-2 lead. Shane Halter drove Kotchman in for an 8-2 lead... The Angels scored three more runs in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Every Angels starter had at least one hit except for Benji Molina and Alfredo Amezaga... Amezaga was involved in a scary play in the second inning. Jorge Posada was running from first to second on a ground ball, Amezaga caught the feed from Kennedy at second base and spun to throw to first, but the ball glanced off of Posada's hand and into his face. Posada left the game and early diagnoses indicate a broken nose... Derek Jeter had two hits and now has three consecutive multi-hit games to bring his average up to .209... Aaron Sele (2-0) earned the win for Anaheim, going six strong innings and allowing just two runs on six hits... Vazquez (3-4) lost his second straight start, giving up five runs in 7.1 innings... Ramon Ortiz pitched the ninth for the Angels, making the first relief appearance of his career. Last week, Sele replaced Ortiz in the rotation.
