PP Game Notes: Yankees 4 - Angels 2

Derek Jeter's bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the Yankees' 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Angels on Wednesday night. Jon Lieber pitched another gem to help lead the Yanks to victory.

Vladimir Guerrero got the Angels off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single... Jason Giambi - playing for the first time since Saturday because of back spasms - hit a two-run homer to right to give the Yankees the lead... Adam Kennedy temporarily tied the game with an RBI hit in the fifth... In the sixth, Hideki Matsui singled with one out, then Tony Clark and Ruben Sierra walked to load the bases. Derek Jeter took ball four to bring in the go-ahead run against Kevin Gregg... In the eighth, Alex Rodriguez put the Yankees up 4-2 with an RBI double to right that scored Bernie Williams.

Lieber (3-1) lasted 7.2 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk - his first allowed of the season. He struck out a pair and threw just 102 pitches... Tom Gordon earned his 10th hold with a one-pitch appearance and Mariano Rivera notched his 15th save of the year with a perfect ninth... John Lackey (3-5) took the loss for the Angels. He allowed three runs on five hits and six walks over 5.1 innings... Angels pitchers combined to walk 11 batters... In the third, Alex Rodriguez made a spectacular diving catch to rob Chone Figgins of a hit... Joe Torre was ejected for arguing balls and strikes after the top of the sixth.

The rubber match of the three-game series is Thursday at 10:05 PM Eastern time... Mike Mussina (4-4, 5.20) will face Bartolo Colon (4-2, 4.59).
