PP Game Notes: Yankees 11 - Orioles 3

Alex Rodriguez and Enrique Wilson combined to drive in seven runs as the Yankees pounded the Baltimore Orioles 11-3 on Monday night. Jon Lieber put in yet another excellent performance as the Yankees improved to eight games over .500.

The Yankees put up the first runs of the game in the fourth with Jorge Posada's RBI double that scored Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui's RBI single that scored Posada for a 2-0 Yankee lead... The Yanks broke open the game in the sixth. Enrique Wilson hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to bring in a run, Matsui scored on a wild pitch and Tony Clark scored on Derek Jeter's double for a 5-0 lead. After Bernie Williams singled, Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run home run to give the Yanks an eight-run lead... Baltimore got some runs in the bottom of the frame by way of a Clark error. Rafael Palmeiro bounced into a fielder's choice to first base, but Clark threw the ball away into centerfield, causing everyone to be safe and a run to score. Javy Lopez followed with an RBI single that made the score 8-2... In the seventh, Wilson hit a two-RBI single for a 10-2 Yankee lead, then he hit another sac fly in the ninth for an 11-2 lead... Baltimore got a run off of Felix Heredia in bottom of the ninth to cap the scoring at 11-3... There was a 79 minute rain delay during the top of the third inning.

Jon Lieber (4-1)won his third straight start, pitching seven innings and allowing just the two unearned runs. He allowed four hits and a walk and struck out two batters on just 89 pitches... Erik Bedard (1-2) left after four innings, having allowed two runs on five hits and a pair of walks. He was charged with the loss
