The Yankees broke out in the fifth inning with eight runs. Amongst the nine hits in the inning were Derek Jeter's two-run double, Alex Rodriguez' two-run homer, and Hideki Matsui's two-run double... The Yanks put up six more in the seventh inning, including RBI hits from Matsui, Tony Clark and Miguel Cairo, and a two-run homer off the bat of Enrique Wilson... Clark doubled again in the eighth to drive in a run as part of a three-run inning that made it 17-3 Yankees... Clark got another RBI from a sacrifice fly that capped the scoring for the Yanks in the ninth at 18-3... Gabe White gave up two runs in the ninth to make it 18-5.

Contreras (2-2) evened his record by pitched six innings for the win. He allowed three runs on eight hits and four walks while fanning four... Felix Heredia pitched two scoreless innings and White pitched the ninth... Sidney Ponson (3-5) was lit up by the Yanks, allowing eight runs on ten hits and a walk in just 4.2 innings. The Orioles bullpen allowed ten runs in a combined 4.1 innings.
