Yankees Minor League Notebook for June 9th

Only two Yankee Minor League teams are in action on Tuesday night as Tampa's contest is suspended due to rain; Aaron Rifkin providing the power and production for the Trenton Thunder; Chien-Ming Wang bounces back nicely in his latest start after struggling in a few straight outings; Bubba Crosby has the biggest blow for the Columbus Clippers with a two run home run. All this and more in this edition of Yankees Minor League Notebook.

Columbus Clippers. The Columbus Clippers were one of only two Yankee farm teams to actually play and finish their game on Wednesday. The Clippers were taking on the Rochester Red Wings on this evening but the game did not end up in the favor of Columbus. They went on to lose this game by the final score of 8-4. The two teams were tied though with 7 hits apiece. However, the Clippers committed and ultra sloppy 6 errors which did not help their cause. The biggest and only real significant blow of the game for the Columbus Clippers was in the first inning. It came off the bat of Bubba Crosby who blasted a two run home run to give Columbus and early but very short lived lead. Note: The rest of the details of this game were recorded too late to be included in this segment.

Trenton Thunder. The Trenton Thunder took the field on Wednesday and they would be facing a solid opponent in the Portland Sea Dogs. The Thunder played through a very tight ballgame but it was a game that would not have the end result in their favor. Trenton went on to lose this ballgame by the final score of 5-3. They were also out hit by Portland by the final count of 7-6. The Thunder offense was very scarce on Wednesday night as they racked up six hits but not one player had a multi hit game. Aaron Rifkin has been Mr. Production for Trenton this year as he was responsible for two of three of their runs. Rifkin had one hit on the night but the one hits was a two run bomb. The home run was his ninth of the season. Dioner Navarro was responsible for the only other run as he had a single and an RBI in the game. Navarro is still pushing his average up and it now sits at .286 for the season. Kevin Reese kept his consistent bat going on Tuesday as well as he had a hit in four at bats. After struggling in his last few starts, Chien-Ming Wang got back on his game in this one as he tossed a solid ballgame. Wang went 5 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six.

Tampa Yankees. The Tampa Yankees did not play on Wednesday because of severe weather in the Tampa area. Tampa was scheduled to be taking on the St. Lucie Mets. They played into the fourth inning where play was stopped. The score was tied at that point at 3-3. They will be back in action on Thursday as they will take on the Mets to finish this contest.

Battle Creek Yankees. The Battle Creek Yankees were not in action on Wednesday because of a scheduled off day on their schedule. The BC Yanks will be returning home on Thursday. They will be taking on Dayton at 7:00 p.m. as they end their road trip.
