PP Game Notes: Rock Cats 3, Thunder 2

The Trenton Thunder lost their fourth straight game as they lost to the New Britain Rock Cats by a score of 3-2 on Monday night at Waterfront Park. Bronson Sardinha was activated right before the game and started at third base for the Thunder. Sardinha went 2-for-4, both singles, in his Thunder debut. JTStotts was sent to Tampa to open a roster spot for Sardinha.

Several other players are with the Thunder but have yet to be activated. These include Matt DeSalvo, who is scheduled to be activated before Tuesday's game and will start Tuesday and Sunday for the Thunder.

Ramon Ramirez, fell to 0-2 on the year despite pitching seven and a third strong innings in his third outing since returning from tendonitis in his shoulder earlier this month. Jim Abbott improved to 2-5 for New Britain, pitching five innings and giving up two runs. Bobby Korecky pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 10th save for the Rock Cats.

New Britain would jump to an early 2-0 lead in the second and never look back. After Kevin West led off the second with a single to right, Garrett Jones followed with a homerun off the scoreboard in right to give his team a 2-0 advantage. The Thunder countered with one of their own in the bottom half to cut the Rock Cat lead to 2-1. After Aaron Rifkin flied out to deep right and Robinson Cano singled to center, Mitch Jones grounded into a fielders choice that erased Cano, the subject of many trade rumors of late, and left the Thunder with a runner on first and two out. Sardinha singled to right to advance Jones. Jones scored when the next batter, Jason Grove, singled to right center to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Thunder would tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the fourth. Cano led off with a single to right. After Sardinha and Jones were retired and Grove walked, Cano scored when Jake Weber singled to center. New Britain took the lead for good, though in the top of the fifth though. Tommy Watkins led off with a single to left. After B.J. Garbe grounded out, James Tomlin singled to left, advancing Watkins to third Watkins would score on a wild pitch by Ramirez to Seth Davidson to give New Britain their 3-2 margin on a beautiful night for baseball in Trenton.
