Six Yankees To Represent AL

Six members of the New York Yankees were named to the American League team for the 2004 All-Star Game. Three players were voted to the starting squad and three more were added as reserves. Find out which players were put there by the fans and which were put there by AL manager - and Yankee manager - Joe Torre.


1B: Jason Giambi - .238, 11 HR, 31 RBI, 28 Runs*

SS: Derek Jeter - .278, 13 HR, 41 RBI, 48 Runs, 9 SB

3B: Alex Rodriguez - .273, 19 HR, 50 RBI, 56 Runs, 18 SB


OF: Gary Sheffield - .300, 13 HR, 53 RBI, 54 Runs

RHP: Tom Gordon - 2-3, 1.66 ERA, 45 Strikeouts, 21 Holds

RHP: Mariano Rivera - 0-0, 0.86 ERA, 35 Strikeouts, 29 Saves

In addition to those Yankees already on the team, OF Hideki Matsui is one of five American League position players in the running for the 25th player, who is to be voted onto the team by the fans.  Go to to cast your vote.  Also on the ballot are 1B Travis Hafner (Indians), 1B Frank Thomas (White Sox), 1B Paul Konerko (White Sox) and OF Lew Ford (Twins).

Former Yankees LHP Ted Lilly and 2B Alfonso Soriano were named to the All-Star team as well.  Soriano will start at second base for the AL squad.  Lilly is the lone representative of the Toronto Blue Jays and is enjoying the best season of his career with a 7-5 record, 4.01 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 98.2 innings pitched.
