Yankees' Arizona Fall League Update

The Grand Canyon Rafters, the team the Yankees' prospects are playing for in the Arizona Fall League, fell to the Phoenix Desert Dogs 11-8 Monday afternoon. The Rafters (6-9) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the game closer than it appeared.

Mitch Jones, playing in his sixth game at first base for Grand Canyon, went 1-3 with a run scored to increase his average to .325 on the season. Jones was batting seventh in the batting order for Rafters Monday and drew two walks in the game to give him five for the young season. Jones still leads the teams in strikeouts with 17 in just 10 games but is currently slugging .675, second on the team and fourth in the league overall. He's tied for second on the team with three home runs.

LF Kevin Thompson went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in the loss Monday and is now hitting .319 in 12 games played. Thompson also stole his fourth base for the Rafters in the game which leads the Rafters. He now leads the the entire Arizona Fall League in runs scored with 17.

After the first 15 games in the Arizona Fall League, LHP Ben Julianel has a 1.04 ERA in his first five appearances despite opposing batters hitting .389 off of him so far. Julianel is fifth in the league in ERA as the Rafters lead the league in team ERA. RHP Sam Marsonek is 1-0 in his four appearances (making two starts) with a 2.31 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings.
