Camp Report: Light Workouts Tuesday

It was a light workout day at the Tampa Complex Tuesday for the Yankees' prospects. After getting in some batting practice under the covered cages outside Monday, the Yankees' positional prospects had a short session of running the bases and playing a little long toss this afternoon. (Free Preview of Premium Content)

While the Yankees await the arrival of the majority of prospects later this upcoming weekend, the current stable of Yankees' prospects have an "on-day/off-day" schedule, with the lighter workouts coming on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Names like Eric Duncan, Tim Battle, Estee Harris, Kevin Thompson, Marcos Vechionacci, and dozens of others highlight the roster of positional players currently getting in early work before the Minor League Spring Training season opens up with full workouts on Monday, March 7th (official sign-in day is on Saturday, March 5th and physicals scheduled for Sunday).

Among the pitching ranks, it was an easy day as well. After bullpen sessions on Monday for the likes of Phil Hughes, Jeff Marquez, Christian Garcia, Brett Smith, Matt DeSalvo, Brandon Harmsen, David Shepard, Charlie Manning, Steven White, and a host of others, the pitchers were relegated to calisthenics and a short session of long toss on Tuesday. Jesse Hoover, at the advice of Nardi Contreras and the trainers, has been resting up the last few days due to a little soreness. Only Eric Hacker threw off a mound Tuesday and looked very good doing so, continually popping the catcher's mitt with repeated fastballs.
