After Second Thoughts, Jackson Officially Signs

The rumors spread like wildfire on Thursday that the Yankees' reported signing of Austin Jackson may not be as official as originally expected. But, even after discovering that the star centerfielder did have second thoughts earlier in the week, he is now officially signed.

After the head basketball coach at Georgia Tech, Paul Hewitt, commented on a radio show on Wednesday night that Austin Jackson may not actually be out of the picture for their basketball team next season, shock waves were sent out among media outlets and fans alike.

Stating that Austin Jackson "has not signed a contract yet" with the Yankees, the Yellow Jackets head coach opened up a brand new rumor in the Austin Jackson saga. But, as it turns out, it was more than just a rumor. It was the truth. The facts are that the Yankees' 8th round pick did agree to terms with the Yankees, but had not officially signed a contract entering this week. He was in Yankee minor league camp, working out however.

On Monday, June 20th, Jackson was having second thoughts about signing. And, according to sources near the situation, "A.J." flew home to Denton, Texas one the same day. He reportedly wanted re-think his whole situation over with his family and collect his thoughts. Perhaps these second thoughts had a lot to do with Georgia Tech point guard, Jarrett Jack's final decision to leave Georgia Tech and enter the NBA draft.

All these second thoughts on the part of Jackson certainly put a scare into everyone, considering he was still not "officially" signed. However, after a few more days of pondering, Austin Jackson returned to Tampa on Thursday with a final decision finally made. And, with that, he officially signed with the New York Yankees. The deal is reported worth $800,000. The opening game for the Gulf Coast Yankees is on Friday, June 24th. Considering the workouts Jackson missed this week, there is some doubt as to whether Jackson will be in the starting lineup.
