Manning Promoted To Columbus

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that LHP Charlie Manning has been transferred to Columbus Clippers (AAA) of the International League. RHP Jeff Kennard will join the Thunder from Tampa (A) and fill his roster spot. In addition, C Jason Brown has been sent to Tampa.

Charlie Manning, a 9th Round selection by the N.Y. Yankees in the 2001 Draft, is tied for the Eastern League lead in wins (5), despite being a relief pitcher. His overall numbers for the 2006 season are 5-0, 1 SV, 1.20 ERA. He earned wins in three straight outings (4/22- 30) and followed those up with 4 1/3 "perfect" innings of relief against Reading (5/2).

Manning was traded by the Yankees to Cincinnati (7/31/03) for 3B Aaron Boone, but traded back to the Yankees (6/17/04) for LHP Gabe White. He has a 48-22 career record over six pro seasons.

Kennard has a 3-0 record with a 1.52 ERA for Tampa this season, along with one save. He was a 40th Round selection in the 2000 Draft out. Kennard has appeared in 22 games with Trenton over the prior three seasons with a 1-2 record.

Brown has been on the Disabled List since the start of the season with a sprained ligament in his right hand. He suffered the injury during Spring Training. Brown played in 51 G for Trenton last season with a .248 BA, 4 HR, 19 RBI.
