Karstens Promoted to Columbus

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that RHP Jeff Karstens has been promoted from Trenton to the Columbus Clippers (AAA-International League). RHP Jason Jones was sent to Trenton from the Tampa Yankees (A-Florida State League).

Karstens was 6-0 with a 2.31 ERA for the Thunder in 11 starts. Karstens, who was transferred from Columbus on May 14th, struck out 67 and walked 14 in 74 IP for the Thunder. He also won five of his final six starts with Trenton.

Karstens was 0-5 with a 7.01 ERA in seven starts for the Clippers during 2006. Last year with the Thunder, Karstens was 12-11 with a 4.15 ERA in 28 games including 27 starts. Karstens finished second in the Eastern League in wins, fourth in strikeouts (147), and fourth in IP (169.0) during the 2005 season.

He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 19th round of the 2003 draft.

Jones compiled a 9-2 record with a 2.55 ERA in 19 appearances including 11 starts for Tampa. He won his final four starts and finished with an 8-0 road record in nine games. Jones struck out 52 and walked only 17 in 88.1 IP. In 2005, he had a 5-13 record with a 5.68 ERA in 26 games including 24 starts for Tampa.

Jones was a fourth round selection by the Yankees in the 2004 draft.

The Thunder will have the next two days off for the All-Star Break and get back to work on Thursday in Akron, OH against the Aeros, Cleveland's Double-A affiliate. Game time is 7:05 PM.
