2007 Draft Q&A: Jeffrey Eubanks

A speedy centerfielder out of John Carroll High School in Florida, Jeffrey Eubanks may very well be a big sleeper prospect entering the 2007 draft. With a combination or raw speed and a quick right-handed bat, he already has many scouts intrigued. We recently caught up with Eubanks for a Q&A session.

Scout.com: First of all, I'm sure it was a summer of showcases for you. How you do you feel your summer went and what were you able to get out of it?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I feel that my summer went well. I was able to get a lot out of it, good experience, a lot of good competition, and I met a lot of new people.

Scout.com: Which event do you think you had your best showing at and why?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I believe my best showing was the East Cobb Tournament (World Wood Bat). We won the event and I hit the ball real well.

Scout.com: If you had describe your overall game, what are some important things you'd point out and basically what should people know about your style of play?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I want to win. I'll do anything to win. I'm very aggressive and like to make big plays. I want to be in the box when the game is on the line.

Scout.com: What would you say is your strongest attribute as a player and why?

Jeffrey Eubanks: Heart. I love baseball and I want to be great.

Scout.com: Have you committed to college yet? If so, which one and have you thought ahead about the decision you could have to make between going pro and college?

Jeffrey Eubanks: No, I've had some great offers, but I haven't committed. I'm concentrating on this season.

Scout.com: What do you feel are the most significant improvements you have to make over the next year and how do you plan to correct them?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I need to stop pressing and just play my game. I plan to relax and have fun.

Scout.com: It seems that you were a player that moved up a lot on many prospects lists this summer. What differences do you think there were in your game that got you the added attention?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I was very relaxed, having fun and I love the spotlight. I saw scouts and I wanted to perform to the best of my abilities.

Scout.com: What do you feel is the most important thing an organization should know about you that they might not see at first glance?

Jeffrey Eubanks: For being 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, I'm pretty powerful.

Scout.com: What big league player would you best compare yourself to in terms of style and why?

Jeffrey Eubanks: Jose Reyes, a lot of quickness and power.

Scout.com: How would you describe your approach at the plate?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I wait on a good pitch that I can drive. Sometimes it's the first pitch, other times I have to wait and be patient.

Scout.com: You've been praised for your offensive skills by many scouts. What do you think makes you such a strong hitter?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I work really hard in the cages everyday, no matter what.

Scout.com: How do you feel playing against such strong competition has helped you as a player?

Jeffrey Eubanks: I love competition. If someone is better I'm going to work harder. So I really think it's helped my game playing against and with such good athletes last summer.

Scout.com: How would you break down your defensive game? Do you feel it is one of your stronger points?

Jeffrey Eubanks: Defense is mine! You hit , I get it. Center field is my favorite. I like to run down balls and make plays.
