Unlike Saturday's race, Sunday's 500 ended in controversy.

Behind the leaders a multi-car crashed has some people wondering why NASCAR didn't throw out a caution flag. With the checkered flag in site of Harvick and Martin, Kyle Busch car was spinning and the 07 car of Clint Bowyer sliding on its top and several other cars sliding and banging each other through the smoke. Some are asking where's the "quick" yellow flag that NASCAR is so famous for. Officials said that the race ended under green and that the yellow flag was not thrown out till the 07 car slid up the track which time Harvick was leading the race. The have all this technology in the cars now days I guess it's not hard to who was actually leading….Yes that is sarcasm. Still doesn't make it any easier for Mark Martin who will unfortunately be remembered for what he hasn't won rather that what he has.

Several top drivers had their chances of winning the 500 end abruptly. Two time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart and NASCAR Champion Kurt Busch were running 1 and 2 when Stewarts car got loose after slightly going down on the apron, Busch was unable to slow down to avoid hitting the 20 car in the rear sending both cars into the outside wall with 38 laps left to go.

Last years Daytona 500 winner and 2006 NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson day ended early. He had an ill handling car most of the race and was trying to make up some time on lap 147 when he took his self out. His car got loose and slammed the wall ending his chances for a 500 repeat. Johnson finished 39th. First time Johnson has been out of the Top 10 since March 2004.

Dale Earnhardt Jr was not much of a factor all day. His day ended on lap 198 when Jamie McMurray car slams the wall and collects the cars of Ricky Rudd and Jr teammate Martin Truex Jr.

The Daytona 500 pole sitter David Gilliand led early in the race. He led for 18 laps and would finish 8th.

David Ragan who replaced Mark Martin in the RYR #6 started 32 and finished 5th giving him the Top Rookie finishing honors.
