Cavs trade 'Birdman'

The Cavs were able to free up a roster spot by trading Chris 'Birdman' Andersen, despite being out for the season with a torn ACL

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio--The 'Birdman' has flown away.

The Cavaliers have traded center Chris Andersen and cash considerations to Charlotte for a protected second round pick, Cavs GM David Griffin announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts. Andersen, who signed as a free agent on July 21, appeared in 12 games this season with averages of 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Andersen was lost for the season when he tore his ACL earlier in the season, but his guaranteed contract took up a roster spot. The Cavs now have an open roster spot.
