Report: Deron Williams cleared waivers and is set to join Cavs

As expected, Deron Williams cleared waivers and is set to sign with the Cavaliers

As speculated since he was placed on waivers by the Dallas Mavericks, Deron Williams is expected to join the Cavs as soon as Sunday. Williams cleared waivers on Saturday.

Williams had a $9 million contract for this season, but it is believed he wasn't claimed as he had indicated he wanted to sign with the Cavs.

Williams, 32, is in his 12th season and is a five-time All-Star. The most the Cavs can give Williams now is a pro-rated salary from the $1.55 veteran's minimum.

Williams is averaging 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds this season, and is shooting 34.8 percent from 3-point range. He's averaging 16.6 points for his career and the Cavs will be his fourth team. He also played for the Jazz and Nets besides Dallas.

Williams played for Team USA in 2012 with both LeBron James and Kevin Love. He is also said to be personal friends of  Kyle Korver, with whom he played from 2007-10 for the Jazz.

Williams will take the 15th-and-final roster spot, but the Cavs could still sign center Andrew Bogut. It is believed the Cavs are interested, and could be where he ends up if he is bought out from the 76ers. To be eligible for the playoffs with another team, Bogut must be designated for waivers by March 1.
