CLEVELAND-- The 'Big Three' was down to the 'Big One' and it wasn't enough.
With Kevin Love still sidelined after knee surgery and LeBron James sitting out with an illness, the Cavs were left with Kyrie Irving as the only member of the trio. When only one of the three play the Cavs are 0-9.
Whenever James is not in the lineup, the Cavaliers have an even tougher time. James missed his fourth game of the season and the Cavs have come up on the short end each time.
James came down with an illness Saturday and sat out of the nationally televised game with Chicago Bulls and the result was predictable. The Cavs led at the half by one point, but the Bulls took control of the game in the third quarter with an 11-0 run and out scored Cleveland in the third quarter, 32-20 on their way to the 117-99 win.
The Bulls extended their lead to as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter and were able to cut it ten points, but could get no closer.
The Bulls win put them over .500 with a 30-29 record, but beat the Cavs for the third time this season. The Cavs lost just their second game of the month of February and fell to 40-17.
Irving did all he could do to try and pick up the slack with 34 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. James Jones and Kyle Korver added 14 points, while Channing Frye had 11 points.
Dwyane Wade had 20 points to lead the Bulls.
Moving Up to #5: Kyle Korver passed Vince Carter and Jamaal Crawford for fifth on the all-time three-point list on his third trey of the game in the second quarter. Korver started the game with 2,010. Both Carter and Crawford are still active. Korver went down in the final moments in a collision with Jimmy Butler and left the game. Korver finished with 14 points on 5-of-8 from the field, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
JJ: James Jones saw more time due to the illness of LeBron James and hit his first three shots, including two triples in the second quarter. He finished with 14 points and was 4-of-5 from three point range.
Sick King: LeBron James missed his fourth game of the season due to an illness and the Cavs are 0-4 in his absence.
RJ Up: With LeBron James out, Richard Jefferson started in his place. Jefferson scored nine points.
Shoot the 3-Ball: The Cavs made eight treys in the second quarter, but tailed off in the second half and finished 14-of-37 for 37.8 percent. Kyle Korver and James Jones had four each, while Channing Frye added three.
Dishing It: The Cavs had 24 assists with Kyrie Irving leading the way with seven.
Rare No Double: It is a rare occasion the Cavs don't have a player with a double-double. Kyrie Irving was one rebound short.
Double D Wills?: If Deron Williams signs with the Cavs, there is bound to be confusion with Derrick Williams, who is known as D-Will. Will Deron Williams be D-Will2?
Next Up: The Cavs will host the Bucks on Monday night at 7 pm.
