Postgame Buzz: Hornets vs. Trail Blazers

Nicolas Batum scored a season high 33 points as the Hornets outlasted the Trail Blazers, 106-94, Sunday night in Charlotte.

Charlotte improved its record to 5-5 after downing the Portland Trail Blazers, 106-94, Sunday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. With the win, Charlotte moved to 5-3 in the month of November and claimed its third win in its last four games.

Nicolas Batum had a game an season-high 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting, including 5-of-10 from the three-point line. Al Jefferson tallied 29 points after failing to score in double figures for the past three games. Kemba Walker (14 points) and Jeremy Lamb (13 points) both finished in double figures for the Hornets. Lamb is averaging 12.6 when Charlotte wins this season.

Gerald Henderson and Noah Vonleh returned to the Queen City for the first time since being involved in the trade for Batum in the offseason. Vonleh started for Portland and tallied nine points and six rebounds in 24 minutes; Henderson failed to score in seven minutes of action off the bench.

Charlotte led Portland by as many as 29 points Sunday night but let the lead dwindle down to six points late in the fourth quarter. The recently reliable second unit struggled to maintain the lead, which forced head coach Steve Clifford to send the starters back out to preserve the win in the final frame.

The Hornets will face the New York Knicks Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Charlotte also faces Brooklyn and Philadelphia this week, who have a combined 1-19 record.
