Charlotte travels to New York for matchup against Knicks

Charlotte will take on the Knicks Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Charlotte travels to New York on Tuesday for its second matchup versus the Knicks this season. It will be difficult to match the last minute frenzy from when the two teams first squared off.

The Hornets squeaked out a 95-93 win over New York Wednesday at Time Warner

Cable Arena with Cody Zeller’s layup in the waning second proving to be the final margin after Kristaps Porzingis had his potential game-winning three point shot disallowed after an official review.

Both teams failed to make the playoffs last season but have played significantly better early this year. Charlotte is looking to climb over .500 with a win in Madison Square Garden, while New York is 5-6 overall after only winning 17 games in Derek Fisher’s first season as head coach.

In its last game, Charlotte held off Portland at home after a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Trail Blazers. The victory was fueled by 33 points from Nicolas Batum--a new season-high-- and 29 points from Al Jefferson, who had only scored 19 combined points in the previous three contests.

Nic Batum earned Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors Monday. The 6-foot-8 wing averaged 25.5 points per game in Charlotte’s last four contests, three of which were victories for the Hornets.

Arron Afflalo made his Knicks debut in Charlotte and is averaging 10 points per contest in three games with the New York after signing a multi-year deal in the offseason. Afflalo spent last year with Portland, where he was a teammate of Batum.

The Hornets announced Tuesday that Cody Zeller will make his first start this season at power forward. Marvin Williams will take the place of P.J. Hairston at small forward, who will not play due to injury.
