About the three-point shooting -- Denver shot 13-21 from beyond . . .
"They zoned us, and we did put another play in because of our zone offense. They play basically was we found the open man and we were hot." -Coach George Karl
Regarding Jason Terry, who scored 26 points but only three of them after halftime . . .
"We were just trying to give him more heat. When he was in pick-and-rolls we tried to put two on him, and he's so quick it's hard to do that. But, some how, some way, he had some open looks and he just missed. Maybe he got tired a little bit." -Coach George Karl
The Battle of the Benches -- the Nuggets bench won, 40-19 . . .
"Their bench was good. They started with some of their better players off the bench and we are going to start our best guys and best scorers. So, I am not going to dump this all on the bench, this is just two different things happening to two different teams right now. We just have to balance that out and I have to figure that out." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"I thought they played great. J.R. had a solid game-- he didn't have a big scoring night but he had defensive plays, helped us rebound the ball, and made some good decisions passing the ball. Al Harrington was solid. And Melvin Ely gave us a good 20 minutes." -Coach George Karl
About the fourth quarter . . .
"We became perdictable and we didn't take care of the ball. When you do that, you're not gonna win ball games . . . in the fourth quarter, we're taking opportunities away from ourselves, and it's not one guy. It's all of us. That's when it becomes difficult." -Jason Terry
"The majority of the game, particularly in the fourth quarter and we just didn't play well enough tonight. We all own this loss, I own this just as much as anybody." -Coach Rick Carlisle
Emphasis on winning at home, where so far the Mavs are 1-2 . . .
"This is where we've got to make a statement and an example. We should be winning every game in this gym . . . I know it's early, but we've got to control certain things on the floor. We've got to help each other and get it done." -Shawn Marion
Regarding the ongoing -- and getting worse -- problem with turnovers . . .
"I don't know the reason . . . Look, we have been better than this and we have to be better and we will . . . 21 possessions with nothing, coming up with no shots. Fortunately they only had 13 points off of those or otherwise it would have been a worse outcome. But-- look we have to be strong with the ball and more discreet with the ball and our execution is gonna have to be better. It's as simple as that." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"21 turnovers, and a lot of them were steals. I think a lot of them were from being careless." -Shawn Marion
Granting professional respect where due . . .
"We had a good run here and there, but they stayed with it all night. You've gotta give them credit; they wanted this more than we did. That's what it boils down to." -Shawn Marion
"They are a unique team with their shot-making ability and they can just rise up on you like very few other teams can." -Coach Rick Carlisle
In short . . .
"Thirteen 3's and we turn it over 21 times, it's going to be a losing formula." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"It's a tough one. I think we should have one this one." -Shawn Marion
