QUOTEBOARD: Mavs Buzz After Beating Boston

Ahhh, don't we feel better? The Mavericks stop the streaking Celtics cold with a close and clutchtastic 89-87 victory. The beginnings of making the AAC the most hostile enemy territory in the NBA? We hope. ...Let's go check in with the fellas. Quoteboard!

Regarding Tyson Chandler, who notched his first double-double as a Dallas Maverick . . .
"This guy is becoming one of our heart and soul guys. He really brings a sprit, a toughness and an energy and you know, he was huge tonight, but he has been really important for us all season." -Coach Rick Carlisle

About rebuilding home-court advantage after a few bad games . . .

"We need to ride this momentum a little bit. Tonight we just kept on battling and hopefully we can build on this week and build momentum." -Dirk Nowitzki

"When you get momentum you must work to keep it and build on it. I thought the game with Denver we got some momentum there and we weren't able to sustain in that home game and so, now our goal is to keep this going." -Coach Rick Carlisle

Regarding Boston's offensive rebounding -- 14 for the game . . .

"A lot of times the penetration of Rondo and all the movement of their offense a lot of times we were out of place and they were able to get the rebound . . . We got back in there, we challenged shots, we blocked shots, we stripped the ball and we were able to come up with some key plays and make them miss." -Tyson Chandler

About the Celtics and their energy level on the second night of a back-to-back . . .
"I thought we had mental fatigue. I talked to them at halftime and said, ‘We're making zero adjustments. We're not going to make one adjustment. Even we're going to be mentally ready to play the second half or we're not.' And we were." -Coach Doc Rivers

Regarding Nowitzki's final shot . . .
"Well originally the plan was to come to the high post and get a catch there and make a move, but KG really played it well he sat on the high so all I could do was run to the ball somewhere and I knew Kidd was going to find me and then Davis was there and I was able to face him up and knock the shot down." -Dirk Nowitzki

"Yeah, it was a good play. They ran it several times. Kevin switched on it which left Baby on it. Ray was coming but just didn't get there quick enough." -Coach Doc Rivers

About the importance of a close win . . .
"We want to have that kind of mind frame so coming in and beating a tough minded team like this and withstanding their run in the fourth quarter was huge for us. I'd much rather have a game like this where you grind it out because it builds character instead of a 15 to 20 point blowout." -Tyson Chandler

"But what really won us the game down the stretch tonight our defense showed a lot of will. We were down five or six late and we came together in the final timeout and said this is our game let's go out and get it . . . If we can keep playing hard on defense we'll be in every game." -Dirk Nowitzki

And . . .
"It was a fun game, fun to be a part of. Boston is one of the best team's in the league, they play physical, they have a lot of guys who can score and a lot of weapons out there. Definitely a fun game to be part of and we're definitely glad and a little lucky to win the game down the stretch." -Dirk Nowizki

"Kidd is one of a kind. His will, Chandler, Dirk, Jet, I thought Marion played really great at the end of the game, even thought he didn't score he really made it tough on Pierce. That's what it's about. The Xs and Os come and go, but the toughness and the togetherness are the things that are going to define this season." -Coach Rick Carlisle
