Mavs 101, Houston 91: 'We Shouldve Won By 20'

'Letdown game'? No. The Rockets rolled into town and Dallas rolled them right back out again. The scoreboard says 101-91, but that's not indicative of how totally the Mavs dominated. Then the Mavs talked about it, and Coach Carlisle dropped a bombshell in his postgame press conference. Which is why we have Quoteboard!

About possibly relaxing too much, going against a team that's 5-11 . . .

"We didn't want to fall into that." -Caron Butler

Regarding the final score . . .

"We should have won by 20. It's disappointing, really. I'm glad we won, but we have to be really steadfast on the importance of the defensive end." -Coach Rick Carlisle

About JJ's hot hand -- 5-8 shooting for 11 points . . .

We didn't do a good job containing penetration. Barea came in and really hurt us, getting to the middle." -Coach Rick Adelman

"My shot is coming around, I just need to keep on practicing and stay confident . . . We have a lot of jump shooters on this team and Coach wants me to really be aggressive when I come into the game and really attack the paint on the pick-n-rolls." -JJ Barea

Regarding Caron's even hotter hand -- in the third quarter he scored eleven points on five straight shots . . .

"He has a great attitude as an offensive player . . . He forgets about misses and all he is thinking about is the next shot going in and that is a very healthy attitude to have as a basketball player . . . it's like a goalie in hockey. When a goalie gets hot they can stand on their head and stop anything." -Coach Rick Carlisle

"Just taking advantage of opportunities. Just catch and shooting the ball, and obviously Jason Kidd was telling me to come off the curl and be ready. And that's exactly what I did . . . Tough times don't last, but tough people do." -Caron Butler

Professional respect for the injury-crippled Rockets . . .

"This team is a team that is going to make you play the full clock. They move it great, they make plays, they have a bunch of guys that can pass, shoot and cut and they put you in tough spots." -Coach Rick Carlisle

The mindset of the Mavericks as a unit right now . . .

"We feel like we can beat anybody right now. If we play our game and keep playing solid defense we feel like we can beat anyone." -JJ Barea

"It's great and everybody is out there helping each other and we're just having a good time playing right . . . Everybody is coming into their own a little bit right now and we're really supporting each other and we're holding each other accountable when we need to. We're playing as a complete team right now and we're competing at a high level." -Shawn Marion

The bombshell -- during Coach's press conference after the game, he made an announcement . . .

"Dominique Jones is gonna go to the D-League for tomorrow night and potentially the next three games." -Coach Rick Carlisle

"You can do all the drills you want. Unless you can use them in the heat of battle, it doesn't do you much good.'' -GM Donnie Nelson

"It's not what I want to do. I want to stay here and learn from these guys. But I feel like Coach Carlisle and Donnie, they know what's best. I'll make the best out of it . . . I'm just going to keep grinding and keep working my way up.'' -Dominique Jones

"It's a chance to play. It's a chance to work on his game. I'm sure [Coach Nancy Lieberman] will kick his ass, which is great. It's an opportunity. Not many teams have a D-League team this close in proximity, so it's an opportunity for us and for him." -Coach Rick Carlisle
