Carlisle To Miss Mavs-at-Thunder Game

After a five-day holiday layoff, the Mavericks will return to the NBA court on Monday in Oklahoma City – but will do so without the services of head coach Rick Carlisle.

Carlisle will miss the game while he recovers from undergoing minor knee surgery this week.

Assistant coach Dwane Casey will move up one chair and will serve as the head coach against the Thunder. Casey, 53, was a head coach in Minnesota from 2005-07.

Carlisle last missed a game in the preseason when he stayed in Dallas as the team traveled to Palm Springs for the night game against Phoenix. Casey also served as the temporary head coach in that game, with Terry Stotts – also a former NBA head coach – as his top aide.

Casey is credited as being an overseer of the Mavericks much-improved defense.
