Mavs Talk Softly, Carry Big Quoteboard

The Kings are young, they're physical, and in the person of Tyreke Evans they've got a triple-double threat. However, in a contest between young/physical and experienced/smart, Mavs win. In the end, Sacramento made one mistake too many and Dallas escaped with a 102-100 win. Ten straight, yo. The guys're sleeping in Denver, so we'll keep it quiet. Quoteboard:

First of all, some bad news -- rookie Dominique Jones suffered a stress fracture in his foot and will be out indefinitely . . .
"The next day or two he's gonna meet with Dr. Souryal and they're gonna evaluate the options going forward . . . It's significant, but I can't give you to what degree or a timetable. He was progressing very well and working extremely hard, and that's why this happened. He was just really going hard. It's a tough break for him and us, because we obviously want to keep him on the floor getting better and have him available to play if needed. But right now it's a chance to get the thing taken care of the right way and get him back." -Coach Rick Carlisle

About JJ Barea's stupefying clutchness -- 15 of his 20 points came in the fourth quarter . . .

"Barea had a great game. In the fourth quarter he was our go-to guy and was making plays. He did a great job scoring and was battling on defense." -Coach Rick Carlisle

1:31 to go in the fourth -- Did You See That Shot?!?
"The shot clock was running down so I knew he was going to drop a little bit. I was just going to take one dribble and pull up. When I jumped and let it go, it felt great. Thank God it went in." -Jose Juan Barea

Reaction to DeMarcus Cousins's second technical foul . . .
"Bull[bleep]! Bull[bleep]! Bull[bleep]!" -The fans

The Kings' last play . . .
"Coach drew up the play. DeMarcus set a pick, Sam set a pick, and I just tried to be aggressive. They didn't give us the call so I probably should have pulled up. It's rare when a ref calls a foul like that at the end of the game." -Tyreke Evans

In short . . .
"Whatever problems we have had closing games, that was not evident tonight. We did everything that you need to win a game and came up short against a great team that did a little bit more to win the game." -Coach Paul Westphal

A certain frustration, perhaps?
"This has been a theme now for the last month. Dirk's either been out or on the comeback trail and we need others to pick him up." -Coach Rick Carlisle

On the Mavs …

"A great ballclub.'' – Westphal.
